The Honourable Minister of Information and Communications, Prof Dora Akunyili has been invited to participate in an Open Debate in the United Nations Security Council. The debate will hold on July 16, 2010 at the UN secretariat in New York, USA. In a letter conveying the invitation to the Honourable Minister, the President of the United Nations Security Council and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Joy Ogwu, stated that the debate is based on a theme chosen by Nigeria: Conflict Prevention and Settlement of Disputes. At the forum, the Honourable Minister will present Nigeria’s sterling peacekeeping records and Government’s efforts to ensure peace, security and stability in the west African region and in the world through Nigeria’s contingents to troubled zones around the world. Nigeria’s Permanent Representative, Prof Ogwu assumed Presidency of the prestigious Security Council on June 30, 2010 and will occupy the position and conduct the affairs of the Council for the month of July 2010.
