New Chief Executive Officer for Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)
Gentlemen of the Press,
I am delighted to present to Nigerians in general and the telecoms
Industry in particular, the new Executive Vice
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Communications
Commission, Dr. Eugene Ikemefuna Juwa.
Dr. Juwa’s appointment has been confirmed by the Senate and approved by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonthan.
The appointment of Dr. Juwa at this time is most challenging in view of the yearnings of Nigerians for efficient service, people-oriented regulation of the industry that will address public concerns over high tariffs, frustrations of drop calls, stolen hand –set syndrome and the new federal government’s policy on Sim-card registration.
There are also other major issues about expanding the markets and opportunities in the telecoms industry and encouraging influx of direct foreign investment.
Dr. Juwa’s record and credentials in the telecom industry is impeccable. Also here is former deputy Governor of Enugu State, Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, who is assuming duty as one of the s Executive Commissioners in NCC. Later on, you will be introduced to the full team led by the new Chairman, Mr. Peter Egbe Igoh. Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha Bintube is also recently appointed as one of the non-Executive Commissioners.
The new team is expected to build on the achievements recorded by the former EVC Engr. Ernest Ndukwe and the former Chairman of the Commission Alhaji Ahmed Joda.
While applauding Mr. President for the excellent choice and the Senate for the confirmation, I wish to assure the new team, of the cooperation and necessary support of the Federal Ministry of Information and Communications.
I advise you to approach your job with dedication, integrity and professionalism for which you were known for in your past callings.
Thank you.
Professor Dora Akunyili
Hon. Minister of Information and Communications
