RE: EMILY OMOPE-ABORISADE MEMORIAL LECTURE/SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
The seventh annual memorial lecture of Emily-Omope-Aborisade will be held on Saturday August 28, 2010 at South Western Hotel, off Ikare/Polytechnic Road, Odo Ado, Ado Ekiti at 12 noon.
Mallam (Dr.) Nuhu Ribadu, former Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will be the Special Guest Speaker at the occasion. The theme of the seventh memorial lecture is: Democracy Means Putting Women First.
Other dignitaries expected at the memorial lecture are: Dr. (Mrs). Olubunmi Ashimolowo, a lecturer (COLAMRUD University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State) who will chair the occasion; Chief Femi Fani-kayode, former commissioner for Aviation; Hon George Tunji Akawa, Commissioner for Trade Commerce and Industry, Ekiti State; Hon Femi Ige, Commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy affairs, Ekiti State; Barrister Femi Falana, President of West African Lawyers Association; and Mr. Babafemi Ojudu, Former Managing Editor, The New Magazine.
Emily Omope-Aborisade Memorial Lecture/Scholarship Awards is held annually under the auspices of Emily Foundation for Democracy in memory of late Mrs. Emily Omope-Aborisade, former woman leader of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ekiti State who died of politically motivated acid attack on March 2, 2003.
Apart from providing a non-partisan forum for people of different political views and shades of opinions, to interact yearly, Emily Foundation for Democracy, established in 2004, offers fifty scholarships to Ado Ekiti indigenes in secondary schools every year.
