The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in AkwaIbom State, Prince UwemItaEtuk has expressed appreciation to the delegates of the Party to the recent gubernatorial primary election in the state, and the entire people of AkwaIbom state, for their patience and resilience in seeing the nomination of Chief GodswillObotAkpabio as the flag-bearer of the Party to a decisive end. He also pledged that the party would work assiduously to achieve victory at the polls.

A statement issued in Uyo and signed by the Secretary of the Party Barrister Ibanga Akpabio quoted Prince ItaEtuk as having described the conduct of the governorship primary as peaceful, orderly and successful said the Party was grateful that despite the flurry of activities which culminated in the presidential primaries, the delegates and officials had refused to be subdued by physical fatigue but had trooped out to reaffirm the choice of Governor Akpabio as the flag-bearer of the party.

According to the Chairman of the Party, “It is gratifying that AkwaIbom people through the delegates had found another opportunity to speak with remarkable lucidity in favour of Chief GodswillAkpabio based on his innumerable achievements as Governor of AkwaIbom State,” he said.

Prince ItaEtuk also commended the other aspirants who had lost in the contest and urged them to be gallant losers. “We salute the courage of the other contestants who had defied Governor Akpabio’s enduring achievements to challenge him for the governorship ticket of the PDP. Their actions have lubricated the wheels of our democracy and given verve to it. We urge them to be gallant losers by taking the hand of fellowship His Excellency has graciously extended to them.

“We thank the Governor for being magnanimous in victory. We applaud his uncommon humility and charge other candidates and public officials from our great party to emulate him. We enjoin the other aspirants to  join hands in building a virile party that would in the coming elections, reconfirm our state as the centerpiece of the emerging Nigeria and returning Governor Akpabio and President Goodluck Jonathan to continue to deliver dividends of democracy to AkwaIbom people,” Prince Etuk said

On the on-going voters’ registration exercise, the state PDP Chairman enjoined AkwaIbom people and residents to turn out en-masse for the exercise which he said is very crucial to the democratic process. He called on the people to give maximum cooperation to registration officials.Prince ItaEtuk appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant an extension of time in view of the hiccups that attended the exercise so that the people would not be disenfranchised.
