RE-HAJIYA TURAI YAR'ADUA SEEN AS THE NEW ANDY UBA

RANTING OF AN ENDANGERED CLIQUE OF MEDIOCRES

Who is after Our 1st Lady, Hajiya Turai Yar'Adua?

My humble attention and that of numerous Nigerians has been drawn to the barrage of empty and 'colorless' allegations leveled against Her Excellency, Hajia Turai Yar'Adua.

The said allegations and speculations, as a report by Sahara Reporters posted on their internet news site of www.saharareporters.com on Fri 21st March, 2008 , are as spurious and frivolous as they are steeped in vindictive falsehood.

The expected and inconsequential media outburst of a negligible few who lack the moral will to stand by their claims and assertions but rather choose to toe the despicable line of moral cowardice by hiding behind the ignoble pens of paid charlatans and mindless hack writers, cannot and will not make any selling point in the progressive and speedily democratizing Nigeria of today.

The issues raised by these booty hunters through the discredited junk site easily fly in the face of hard facts and sound reason.

Due to the speedy dismantling of the culture of enthroning and enriching a cabal of mediocre, who string along the corridors of power, a development which is bound to throw many graft experts back into the bread line, and the desperate need to hold on to their dynasty of fraud, these men of little esteem, with their rabid bias which blinds objectivity, cannot see anything good and worthy in the efforts of an administration that has so far given political leadership a human face.

Their previous effort at antagonizing Mr. President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was flung back at them by Nigerians who have refused to be misled by any stomach-inspired activism.

Today, they have wrongly assumed that Hajiya Turai Yar'Adua is the weaker link and have mobilized their phalanx of political 'Undertakers' to discredit her efforts and sacrifices and possibly dim her rising humanitarian profile.

The report, riddled with fallacious misrepresentations, is not worthy of a second look. It is however pertinent to put the records straight in some grey areas of tainted facts.

The said report alleged inter alia that Her Excellency, Hajiya Turai Yar'Adua uses her foreign trips to advance her pet projects and that her recent trip to the United States was a guise to seal oil deal n Texas. The falsehood is pathetic, owing to the fact that the trip was not shrouded in any official secrecy.

Granted that Her Excellency, Hajiya Turai Yar’adua made a trip to the United States, how could such a trip by the nation's First Lady, made in a commercial aircraft, be contrived as advancing her pet project and portrayed as taking advantage of the country?

One also wonders when the alleged oil deal in Houston, Texas took place.

Perhaps, when Her Excellency, Hajiya Turai Yar'adua was receiving a certificate of Congressional Recognition from the United States Congress, as presented by Sheila Lee, who represents the 18th congressional district of Texas? Ms. Lee said in her presentation: “Your hard work and dedication to the health and well being of your people is truly worthy of the respect, admiration and commendation of the United State Congress."

In Lee's presentation, she took ample time to pay glowing tribute to a woman who has gone the extra mile to bring succor and support to many.

If these hack writers cared a little for facts and figures, they would have discovered that Her Excellency Haj. Turai Yar'adua was in United States to follow up on a memorandum of understanding between MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston Texas and the Nigerian Government which was signed in November, 2006. (They can refer to National Daily Newspaper of 22nd March, 2008, Page 5)

The qualification of Haj. Turai Yar'adua by the article was meant to be demeaning but it could not be more 'apt'- because, Turai Yar'adua would rather continue to be a 'fiery tigress' to all those who have continued to use and abuse the Nigerian children and women; to those who have relentlessly sought to debase womanhood and confine them to dehumanizing subservient roles; and to all the child abductors and human traffickers.

Evidently, Haj. Turai has entirely engrossed herself with the pressing issues of negligence and abuse leading to the ever increasing rate of infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria and beyond. It was in view of her exemplary commitment to the future of women and youth in Africa and her excellent leadership qualities and unbeatable motherly roles that made her emerge the current indisputably leader and President of African First Ladies Association. A status which she is currently holding in recognition of her efforts towards creating a future for the African youths and women.

She has channeled her energies towards mobilizing enough funds for the upgrading of the living standard of Nigerian mothers, children and youths and should be encouraged.

Be that as it may, most of the issues raised by the sponsored report can only be described as figments of a deranged and morbid imagination and should best be ignored.

Her Excellency, Haj.Turai Yar'adua is legitimately married to a union, with each complimenting the other where necessary. In the case of the Yar'aduas, it is a highly religious union with zero tolerance for fraud, corruption vice and unethical practices.

This simply is why the ‘bad boys’ are crying foul, but no matter whose ox is gored, the standard remains.

With the fact that about 55,000 women die every year due to pregnancy related causes and over 1 million children die every year in Nigeria . We therefore view it as un-Nigerian, un-patriotic, wicked and maliciously retrogressive to blackmail a woman who has placed great premium on the lives of women, children and youths. Moreover, she is going through a lot of trouble to secure qualitative healthcare for women and children to give them opportunities to fulfill their lives aspiration.

I am of the opinion that, only sound minds can sustain our democratization process and a healthy mind can only be found in a healthy body. Only such persons can qualitatively advance democracy and democratic norms in Nigeria and perhaps bring to an end the era of media rascality.
