THE TRIALS AND TRAVAILS OF HAMMAN TUKUR AND THE RMAFC.

BY: BABA AHMADU

For several weeks now The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission has come under magnified spotlight  through editorials by national papers due to  its ineffective leadership. The editorials highlighted the high-handedness of Hamman Tukur, his greed, his selfishness and how he has been awarding contracts to his cronies and as well as absenteeism from office. Some of the editorials talked about the ugly in-fighting amongst his commissioners where 25 wrote a petition to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for his removal.

The 25 commissioners out of 37 commissioners accused the Chairman of instability and other unbecoming behavior of a bureaucrat and a technocrat. The editorials which are more than three apart from opinions from other concerned Nigerians accused the Chairman of turning The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission into his personal estate and never respected the opinion of any body there except few that he is hand in gloves in deals.

It could remembered some time in 2005,when at the entrance of the National Assembly, same  Hamman Tukur had a physical combat and threw fists into the air,a brawl and a fight with security men who simply asked him to identify himself. He threw decorum to the air and his gown was torn.Such kind of unbecoming, undeserving behavior is unlike a gentleman of this his position.

Nigerians are yet to come terms with allocating jumbo allowances of N15,000,000.00 and N10,000,000.00 to members of the National Assembly,Senate and House of  representatives respectively, while to many they are not doing what they have elected to do.These are besides paraphernalia fringe benefits and other non-monetized comfort.

Some have thought all these are out of line with an economy that has been facing problems from all fronts.

Therefore with all these cacophonous noise coming from The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, we support the idea of a panel to investigate the commission or outright dismissal of the Chairman, Hamman Tukur, for ineffective leadership.
