The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Abdulwaheed Omar on Thursday hailed the victory of the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko at the Appeal Court which affirmed the judgement of the lower Tribunal which declared him as the duly elected governor of the State on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) saying that by this, the dream of the Labour movement in the nation has started to come to fruition.
Omar who was in Akure on a courtesy to Dr Mimiko while congratulating the Governor noted that with his emergency, the LP was on the verge of taking over as the leading political party in the South-West adding that in a short while, it would rule Nigeria.
The NLC boss who came with national executive council of the NLC however warned the new Governor to beware of hawks who, he noted, would do anything to lure him into another party enthused that the LP was the only party in Nigeria with a very bright future which would also provided him with the needed space to implement people-oriented programmes.
“I urge Your Excellency to beware of hawks that will not stop working to lure you into another party. I know that some people will do everything to co-opt you and take you away from this path, but I want to urge you to look at the LP as a party for the future, it has very bright future and it is the only party that will give you the needed space to implement people-oriented programmes,” Omar counseled.
In his reaction, Dr Mimiko enthused that the visit of the NLC leadership has shown that the LP is not a political orphan as being insinuated in several quarters. He assured them that his would not only be an LP government in name alone but in action; one that would work for the people.
His words: “We wanted a political party that will mirror our ideological conviction and it is not by coincidence that we chose the LP; we chose the LP because it will provide that platform for our goal and aspirations.”
He assured that his government would work for the people, provide the necessary buffer for the weakest in the society and fulfill all its electioneering promises and take Ondo State to the next level where the people will have life abundance.
He also solicited the support of the NLC in moving the State forward saying that his administration, on its part, would reciprocate the good gesture.
