Re: Ardo’s Adamawa Governorship Dream
by Samaila Gambo
Even in older democracies, the right to reply is one of the prerequisites for the sustenance of the rule of law and equity. Though accepted as fair hearing and a feedback by way of feeling the pulse of the people on issues of national interest, desperadoes and fraudulent characters have taken refuge under the guise of the right to reply, to peddle falsehood aimed to obfuscate issues.
It is against this backdrop that recent negative media publicity against the Murtala Nyako led wobbly regime, coupled with the display of democratic moves to unseat the administration in the forthcoming governorship election slated for 2012, by a bonafide citizen who feels he has what it takes to move Adamawa forward that made some aides of the governor to catch cold. The administration, through one of its megaphones, who is a Special Assistant to the governor on Inter-Party Relations, Malam EL-Ladam Yadim, through a publication sponsored in NNN of May 10, 2009, came out smoking, churning out tissue of lies and misinformation to the Newspaper readers to hoodwink the unwary members of the public. This is unfortunate.
As it is in the usual character of such people, Malam El-Ladam Yadim, without shame, stood honesty on its head in a futile attempt to wriggle out the fraudulent mandate of his boss, out of its self-created crisis of confidence threatening to consume it.
If not, what political clout or platform does Mr. Yadim possesses which gave him the air of confidence to say that “Dr. Ardo lacks credibility and decency to challenge Nyako under a non-existing faction of PDP on which platform Dr. Ardo claims to contest the Adamawa governorship position in 2011”? Mr Yadim should note that the governorship of Adamawa is not an exclusive preserve of his boss alone. It is opened to all credible and responsible citizens of the state. No wonder, the Nyako boys among whom are the S.A. on Inter-Party Relations, feel threatened with Dr. Ardo’s intimidating credentials.
The simply logic behind his (S.A) dislike of anybody moving against Nyako is to enable him continue to pick the falling crumbs from the millions of naira wasted daily on the upkeep of Nyako’s long chain of idle cronies and family members enlisted into government.
Furthermore, taking liberty with the guaranteed constitutional provision of right to fair hearing, the Nyako government reputed for its open disdain for the sanctity of truth, decided to raise the ante of false hood, to cling to power unnecessarily. On the government’s card of misinformation and falsehood, Mr. Yadim claimed his boss’s administration is a democratic one. Why then is he trying to shoot out other contestants from vying for the top job in the state? Also, while referring to the Teneke-led faction “as non-existing, the same Yadim in the same piece acknowledged that Teneke-led PDP faction members are not technocrats”. He maintained that “most of them are politically bereft of ideas, and are known to be ignorant about democratic tenets”. This is double standard, Mr. Yadim. By the way, are you sure you know your briefs as S. A. on Inter-Party Relations? It is doubtful.
Mr. Yadim also lived up to his billing as cracked megaphone to Nyako’s floundering administration, when he gratuitously said that “Nyako will be governor for long, as God-ordained who is accepted by all”. The question is how does he mean? Has the S.A. quickly forgotten how and who catapulted the mango farmer from SEBORE farm to Dougirei Government House? The S.A should not play God in this matter. Nyako should just complete his mandate and step aside. But while he is still milking the state, he should endeavour to reduce the level of nepotism in the government. This is because a good government is judged by how well it meets its legitimate objectives – one of which is zero tolerance to nepotism and cronyism.
Referring to the venomous write up of Mr. Yadim which appeared on page 5 of NNN dated 10/5/09, it is easy to discern that Nyako’s cohorts are indeed obsessed with the emotion of collective vendetta against the entrenchment of democracy in Adamawa politics and the PDP as a political party. This obsession is manifested in the government’s inability to see any redeeming feature in the criticisms of its traducers. In the lexicon of mandarins of Nyako’s boys, since tea and milk mix very well, so must lies and governance. To them, lies and governance seem like Siamese twins.
