A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE ONE DAY SUPREME IGBO YOUTHS ALLIANCE CONFERENCE HELD AT VIVIAN HOTEL OKIGWE ROAD OWERRI , IMO STATE ON THE 16TH OF MAY 2009.
By Igbo Youths
During deliberations at the meeting which was massively attended by frontline youth leaders and activists, journalists, market union leaders, transport union leaders and other civil society organizations from across the Igbo speaking states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Imo, and Rivers states, the body addressed some National topical issues and other Igbo related issues as they affect the Igbos especially the youths and made the following declarations that Igbo youths :
Join the millions of patriotic and well meaning Nigerians in condemning the recent avoidable show of shame in the Ekiti re-run which has in no small way portrayed our great country in bad light within the comity of Nations.
Condemn the use of excessive force in the Niger delta crisis by the J.T.F even as we frown at the resort to militancy and criminality by some youths in the region.
Will henceforth be at the vanguard in building alliances with other tribes and regions in the country as well as agitation and advocacy for Igbo presidency come 2015 and that the Oha-na-Eze Ndigbo should quickly commence processes to unify and harmonize the Igbos politically to ensure that same is realized.
Call on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency begin the immediate repair and reconstruction of all the dilapidated Federal roads in the South East and the South region which is hampering economic activities in these regions as well as the urgent construction of the second Niger bridge in the face of the vibrating old one which is currently over used.
Having critically examined the various agitations for state creation in the South east, we totally support the creation of the “ UGWUAKU STATE” which of all is the one that has equitable territorial input from all the five south east states. we equally call on the protagonists of other agitations for the sake of Igbo unity to cue in line with this logical agitation.
Strongly commend the Governors of the Igbo speaking states of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Imo and Rivers who have successfully conducted elections into their local governments while we challenge the Governors of Anambra and Imo to match their words of commitment to democracy with work by conducting local government elections in their respective states .
Igbo youths are worried by the fast rate with which vicious crimes like kidnapping, Indian hemp smoking, robbery and other youth associated vices are eaten deep into the fabrics of our society and we hereby condemn these inglorious acts in its entirety and resolve that any Igbo person or youth found to be indulging in the shameful acts will henceforth be declared an outcast in Igbo land.
Shall do all within our reach to prevent the looming extinction of the Igbo language while we salute the Anambra house of Assembly for passing the bill to promote the use of our cherished language and we call on other states Assembly in Igbo land to do same.
