ETSU NUPE: THE EMIR WITH A TORTURE CHAMBER By Atâyi Babs
Regarding to human rights issues I believe that it is right for me and the rest people of my town Bida Niger State Nigeria to bring to your notice the very ugly incident of 25 th of March 2009 that happen through human rights abuses and violations in Bida in connection with lack of rule of law in Niger State.
With picture evidences I am happy to let you know that the Etsu (the king) of Nupe and chairman Niger state council of chiefs Bida by the name Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar is a dictator ruler that has a prison in his palace called “Akorigiwa” elephant teeth where he torture people beyond human recognition and sometimes torture to the point of death and he also has control over all the court that happen to be in the town in addition he conspire with the police and the vigilante group established by him to molest people’s rights. The police in my state are toothless dogs because they don’t have say in their police activities due to his power over them, for if they do talk he makes sure they are sack or transfer.
The 25 th March 2009 incident was a master-minded work of him (Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar (the King)) to wipe out some set of people from his domain that is me and my people through the police, the vigilante and some Sufi (TARIQAH) Islamic sect in the town. Since the time of the incidence the police has not arrested any of the perpetrators which made destructions of houses and business centers and schools in the watchful eyes of the police and these operation took place for 48hours without any intervention by the securities in the state, and we who were the victims were took to the king’s cell in his palace and torture to the point of death. This made me and my people no choice but to go to another town to file a case against him and his conspirators (inspector general of police, commissioner of police Niger State, Attorney general Niger state and others) in the federal high court Minna Niger State, the State capital.
Since then, the case with the suit number FHC/MN/CS/19/09 has been in the court and which has undergone just three hearing and the next hearing is slated for this month the 21 st/07/09. We want from your reputable organization to please intervene through your representative in Nigeria to bring this King (Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya) and his conspirator (inspector general of police, commissioner of police Niger State, Attorney general Niger State and others) to book or otherwise these ugly incidences and other more of it will continue in my town and beyond.
