Now that Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has vindicated me. By Ndiameeh Babrik
With all humility and heart full of joy I want to use this opportunity to thank Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, the Executive Governor of Kano state for finding time despite his tight schedules he was able to create time to attend the Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) crusade in Sabon Gari Kano on Sunday 15 th of November 2009.
My joy knows no bound really since my first article published in the press on Wednesday July 15, 2009 was about Shekarau being anti-Christians and the subsequent one which I titled “Why he cannot win”.
I am thanking Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau particularly for accepting challenges and being humble.
Even if he attended the crusade for political reason considering his presidential ambition. I want to give him credit for that. I equally give him credit for hosting the pentecostal Christians in Kano. I am personally elated he had from the man of God our Father in the Lord Pastor WF Kumuyi. Our role model Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians chapter one verse 15 to 18 says in whatever way Christ is preached and he will rejoice because of that.
These are some of the reasons why some us took the challenge to write about persecution of the Church in Kano and Northern Nigeria generally.
But I am more excited the fact about One million pentecostal Christians in Kano were said to have attended the Kano crusade.
Most of the major dailies and on-line news on Monday 16 th November 2009 flashed the headline 'Sharia Governor turned Pastor at Crusade'. This is an opportunity for all other governors in Northern Nigeria particularly governors of Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kwara, Katsina, Nasarawa and Sokoto to tour the line of honorable men like Ibrahim Shekarau, Danjuma Goje and Babangida Aliyu. More so we are hearing on the grapevine that somebody like Bukola Saraki wants to have a shot at the presidency in 2011. Yet it was the same Bukola Saraki who walked out of the Northern Governors meeting when Northern CAN was appealing to them to find solution to incessant religious crises in the Northern part of Nigeria. What we are saying is that whosoever wants to lead Nigeria must know that Nigeria is a diverse multicultural and multi-religious society.
All reports so have always shown that Islam and Christianity has a 50-50 percent population in Nigeria. You must be a moderate Christian or Muslim to win a truly free and fair election.
Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has embraced the truth early enough even before 2011 election draws near. With that singular act alone now the over One million pentecostal Christians in Kano who attended the crusade when he 'preached' will still have him fresh in their mind in 2011.
Ironically my good friend Saka Raji Audu will now have to swallow his words or probably bury his head in shame? Well all I know is that in the year of our Lord 2009AD, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, the Executive Governor of Kano state attended the crusade conducted and held in Sabon Gari Kano Nigeria by the Pentecostal Christian Fellowship of Nigeria where about a million pentecostal Kano Christians attended. Can Saka Raji Audu still deny the fact that there over 50 million pentecostal Christians in Nigeria?
Well Kano your home base has about a million already. I am not talking of Lagos or Kaduna yet.
To be honest Saka Raji Audu is more of a liability to Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau's presidential ambition than an asset. This is my personal opinion. Shekarau sai kayi, But remember the Churches C of O ranka ya dade.
