OF THE JOS CRISIS AND THE NIGERIAN QUESTION By Danlami Dariya
There has been so much write-ups and memorandum that have been published by the Nigerian press and its foreign counterparts since the ugly hydra-headed Jos crisis reared up its head again on Sunday 17th January 2010. Out of all these write-ups, one stands out, though people look at it from a religious body point of view, but does it matter where the truth is coming from? Judging from what one monitors from both radio and television, one will not help but to comment thus:
Has Not The Present Political logjam in the country, brings to the fore what is happening in Jos?
The Jos question:
Is the Jos crisis Religious, Political or Ethnic?
The masquerades that have formed a cabal on the Plateau to make sure that the plateau person does not have a place to rest and call his home coined all sorts of names calling it from Ethno-religious, ethno-political to political-religious, these are the masks they have used in covering their faces.
These are the questions Ishaku Damina, who suffered the effects of two of the Jos Crisis:
1. In 2001, it was a lady who tried to cross the place of muslim worship on a friday, at the Congo-Russia junction a predominantly christian area, she was challenged by the men that usually stand and direct people, from there spontaneously, everywhere in Jos was on fire most especially Igbo businesses in dilimi area and Yorubas along buachi road by sarki street junction and zololo junction suffered all sorts of callous damages. When normalcy returned, inscriptions on the walls of these damaged shops read: JOS NORTH FOR HAUSA. When a peace panel was setup all the inscriptions were repainted and covered. Was the crisis then religious, political or Ethnic, judging from how and why it started?
2. 27th of November 2008, the local government elections were peaceful, but save for the results that was being awaited from Gada Biyu and Kabong wards all in Jos North, as early as 6:45a.m of Friday 28th November, some Muslim Hausa youths numbering more than 500 stormed the ECWA Church Katako, there and then killing the pastor in-charge, from there they all termed up and headed to Fatima Cathedral also in Katako area. The question is Why did they attack the Church instead of either government buildings or INEC Offices? Why were all the churches along Naraguta country club road and COCIN sarkin Mangu Street amongst others attacked and burnt down? Are these INEC Offices or Jos North LGC Properties?
3. While Christians were attending church services in their various places of worship penultimate Sunday 17th January 2010, Muslim youths attacked worshipers at the ECWA Church, Jos Jarawa at about 11:45 a.m, a christian woman making her way to the church was attacked by these armed youths, numbering over 300, claiming to be construction workers hired by another Muslim to reconstruct his house not too far from the church; raised alarm which attracted a member of the Boys' Brigade who in turn raised alarm. This attracted the attention of the Church Pastor who promptly terminated the church service and ordered all his members to run to safety, These youths gained entrance into the church premises and burnt down anything on sight including all the cars and motorcycles within the premises.
Promptly, the commissioner of police then, Mr Ayanting made a press statement that corroborated this story, what happened? He was immediately deployed from Plateau State, and all sorts of reports started flying ranging from Christians are slaying Muslims in Jos, to Jonah Jang doesn't like hausa fulanis in Jos. What are the basis of these stories? In their usual Jihadist style, while Christians were busy nursing the pains of the attacks, they were busy piling dead bodies for foreign media to see how Christians are killing them in numbers, and sending reports to the Federal government on Plateau State government conniving with indegenes to kill all Hausa Muslims in Jos. Without investigations reactions started coming in, even from the Al-Qaeda group; offering arms and ammunition and training free for the Muslims in Nigeria to fight and kill Christians in Nigeria! Who is fooling who? How comes all the cries and submission by can and other groups like the indegines Muslim groups led by people like Alhaji Umaru Miango and Sheik Gomwalk have not been given attention and prominence like that of the JNI and JIBWIS?
Who is the oppressor and who is the aggressor?
Mr Damina now asks me to print these words :
When the peace summit held in 2004 came to a close and resolutions passed as communique will be signed, the Hausa Fulani group led by Samaila Mohammed now a member of the federal house of representatives canvassing for laws to be amended, refused to signed it and walked out, why? It is a universal saying that he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day, why are we spending public hard earned monies constituting other panels when from this 2004 peace summit we knew those that wanted Jos crisis to continue unabated, until they win the war, if not there can never be peace?
Why are we looking for Jos Crisis Culprits when in Peace and war we know them? Why?
The Nigerian Question:
The truth about Jos crisis has reared its head in Aso Rock Villa. Who are those that want to hold on to power not minding the constitution?
That Dr Goodluck Jonathan is not good enough to be either the acting or substantial president?
Why did Nigeria for the first time in history as a nation had to stay for 89 days without a president?
Then Dr. Goodluck had to be warned that he should forget nursing the ambition of being a president as the north will complete their 8years of presidency.
Where do we call the North, or south? Does it mean that south west according to the constitution that recognizes the Six geo-political zones does not recognize the south-south as an entity of a zone? Why will the south west have the presidency for eight years, and by divine providence God has given the chance to another geo-political zone , the south-south, then just for the cabal that there be, called the complete south-west, south-east and south-south as one geo-political zone called the south.
The same people that have been making sure Plateau State is not stable and canvassing for state of emergency and even calling Jonah Jang incompetent are the same people that are confusing the HOLY BOOK OF NIGERIA the CONSTITUTION by making sure a sick president is ruling 150million healthy people. Making sure there are factions in the Plateau PDP, recognizing one faction against of the government of the day.
Plateau, there can be no land in the whole country as Quiet, productive, beautiful, fertile, blessed and a home to every God given creature to enjoy more than your LAND!
