As Atiku Abubakar Laughs Last

The pandemonium generated by former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Nuhu Ribadu regarding the alleged pool of corruption Atiku Abubakar swam in is still unprecedented in the history of this nation. Just ask anyone on why Obasanjo refused to handover to Atiku, the likely response is that Atiku was corrupt. Even though most people fail to confirm the veracity or otherwise of this allegation, some people are prepared to bet with their last kobo that Obasanjo was correct.

It is curious that more than one year after vacating office, Atiku is yet to be charged with any act of corruption. Not even has
Atiku¢s name been mentioned in all the public hearings at the National Assembly regarding some activities of the past administration. Atiku was not even accused of using his position to attract plots of land at choice locations. Again his name did not even come for mentioning in the Independent Power Project, the committee which he chaired. Rather, it is his accusers i.e. Obasanjo, Ribadu, El-Rufai, Fani Kayode, Bode George etc that are constantly been linked to one corrupt act or the other. What an
irony!

Atiku¢s wives and other family members have not been mentioned in the contract controversy. His close friends have not been linked to any scam either. Peter Okocha was said to be fronting for Atiku in the AP saga. Fortunately for Atiku, his name has been cleared from the mess by one of his sworn enemies, el-Rufai.

What is even more curious is that the new EFCC Boss was quoted to have said at a recent interview that she could not lay her hands on any file on Atiku Abubakar. It can then be concluded that all the noise about Atiku and corruption was the creation of Obasanjo and his co-travelers to achieve a predetermined end. Atiku said this much when the battle to remove him was on, but unfortunately he was not believed.

Now that Nuhu Ribadu is being called upon to answer some questions, methinks the most logical thing for him to do is to throw himself for investigation. The guest house he bought at Asokoro for over N400,000,000, the one he bought in Dubai, the charges against him by Chief Nwude that his seized house was sold to Ribadu¢s cronies for peanuts, the management or mismanagement of EFCC funds etc are all issues hanging on his neck. If Ribadu fails to submit himself to EFCC for investigation, then it means that he is not as clean as he made us to believe. It is not just fair.
