CHAPTER THREE
MOSHOOD ABIOLA’S BREAK WITH POVERTY
Each and every one of us has our time to keep with destiny. We all want to succeed in life. It took some to make it in the twilight of their time; others made it in the midlife while some hit it early in their prime. Some never made it at all before departing this world. In the words of the renowned British bard William Shakespeare, some inherited success while some achieved it. Some were born into riches; some made it by sheer luck others through hard work and doggedness while fortunes smiled on some by unexplainable circumstances. But in all, the Good Lord Almighty made it to happen as the Teacher told us in the Book of Life.
In early 1971 when Moshood Abiola, just thirty-three years old responded to an advertisement for the position of Chief Financial Officer by the International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT), Lagos, little did he know that step would herald a total transformation of his life and change him forever Abiola was then at Pfizer but the urge to advance in his career just like any aspiring young man kindled his interest in the advertised job
After their discussion with Abiola, they met Jerry and being briefed earlier by his dashing accountant about his drink problem, Jerry couldn’t be sober enough not to be found out by his colleagues from New York. Every drunk or smoker is easily found out sooner or later no matter how skillful they cover their tracks
Moshood Abiola proceeded to remit all necessary money to ITT headquarters in New York
