ELECTION TRIBUNAL: AGAGU GIVES UP HOPE, PREPARES EXIT STRATEGY

Olusegun Agagu

Governor Olusegun Kokumo Agagu of Ondo State Nigeria and his executive council members may have concluded that there is no light at the end of the petition tunnel trailing the controversial elections that secured him a four year second term. Details are beginning to trickle in that Dr. Agagu has started to put together an exit strategy ahead of the likely unfavorable ruling from the Election Tribunal sitting in Akure, the State capital.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that Governor Agagu met with the party caucus on Sunday. And at the meeting several likely scenario were considered in respect of what could be done in case the ruling from the tribunal decides to go negative.

A close political associate of Agagu explained to Pointblanknews.com that the Governor has high hopes that the tribunal would rule in his favor but that the Governor was disturbed by the proven allegation of electoral fraud that the Labor Party convincingly tendered as exhibit before the tribunal. The source said that apart from the documented incriminating fraud perpetuated by “certain nincompoops who were acting without instructions from Governor Agagu,” the Governor is also worried as to the conduct of the National Executive Council, NEC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who literarily abandoned him on the rail track.

The source said that the Sunday meeting was surprise that the PDP has not deemed it necessary to intervene and halt the spate of unfavorable ruling that have resulted in the initial annulment of several legislative seats hitherto declared for the PDP.

It was learnt that the Governor was able to assure the party caucus that he was not the mastermind of the rigging perpetuated by overzealous party operatives. Governor Agagu was said to have reasoned that the fact that the dictated fraud were handled in a way that could not be denied was enough proof as to the intellectual shallowness of the people responsible.

According to the source who craves anonymity, Agagu may not pull any punch when the verdict comes. The source would not delve into the specifics of the agreed options that would be pursued if the titanic eventually sinks.
