After several weeks of speculation, there were indications yesterday that President Umaru Yar’Adua may have finally approved the appointment of Chief David Edevbie as his Principal Secretary (PS) to replace long serving Mr Steve Orosanya, who had been serving in that capacity for the last nine years.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Mr Orasanya who has not been formally informed but has already commenced packing his personal effects from the presidential Villa may be redeployed to the Ministry of Finance as the Permanent Secretary.
Mr Edevbie’ served as a commissioner of Finance in the administration of chief James Ibori and was rumored to have been considered for appointment as the Director General of the Bureau for Public Enterprises before he was dropped, owing to what some analyst said was adverse security report. It is not clear whether the security report has been quashed, based on superior information to the contrary.
An alumnus of Harvard University , Mr. David Edevbie, is expected to resume on Monday next week and may likely be sworn in next week Wednesday during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
A widely traveled man, he served in the Commonwealth Development Corporation as the Deputy Country Head for the Philippines in 1996 and later returned to the London office of the organization Investment Manager in March 1998.
Chief Edevbie’s appointment may signal a reform in the seat of power as a highly placed source in the presidency revealed that the office of the Principal Secretary would be sepearted from that of the Permanent Secretary who is the chief Accounting officer in the Villa. Mr Orasanya had served in both capacity as the Principal Secretary and the Accounting Officer in the presidential Villa.
