Muhammad Bello Abubakar |
Ordinarily, the name of Muhammad Bello Abubakar, a former supervisor with the United African Company, UAC and, latter Bacita Sugar Company in Niger-State , Nigeria, rings no bell, even to most people in Bida, his homestead. Aged 84, he is largely seen as a retiree in the twilight of age that he devoted the remaining part of his life to the service of his creator, Allah.
However, the grand old man may have booked a conspicuous place for himself in the Guinness Book of Records as the man with largest capacity for procreation, man with the largest family in the whole wide world. After marrying 86 wives and siring 170 children, he has contributed what no other Nigerian, dead or alive, has contributed to the ever increasing population of the most populous black nation in the world.
And by all indications, he is not done yet, not when most of his surviving wives are still very young, beautiful, virile and yet to reach their peak in child bearing.
For the record, Abubakar started his journey at the age of 29, and like a hungry lion baying for more blood after devouring its prey, the man never stopped. And he seems to be well equipped for the life long task.
In a visit to the area, you may find Abubakar, third in a family of eight, holding court in an expansive compound In Bida, an ancient town in the heart of Niger state.
Just like a king reigning over a thousand thrones. He is living in a sprawling compound with a large court yard, praying ground, school of Islamic and Arabic studies, a well and an expensive carpentry workshop, all devoted sole to the service of his extra- ordinarily large family.
Locating his house was very easy. Any commercial motorcyclist, will definitely takes you to Abubakar’s house. However meeting the man personally could be a task because of the time he takes to attend to his many wives, children and relatives.
But with all this, the man agreed to talk to our Northern Nigeria Bureau correspondent. He spoke virtually everything about his life, women, children and other issues. He lambasted the leadership of the country’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, which disowned him for engaging in “an un-Godly act”, describing them as ignorant of the teachings of Islam and railing against the wonders of God.
The excerpt of the encounter read as thus:
Q- With due respect, sir, how old are you?
Ans- I’m delighted to see you, back to your question I’ m 84 years old.
Q- What do you do for a living?
Ans: I am not doing anything. I live for Allah and His Prophet (SAWA) by offering prayers. I offer prayer for the world, for everyone so that we can all be blessed in this world and hereafter, in nutshell, that is what I live for today.
Q- Recently, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria disowned you for marrying more than four wives as enshrined in the Holy Books of Muslims, what is your reaction?
Ans- I first challenge the council and all other Islamic scholars in the world to show me where it is written in the Holy Quar’an, the punishment prescribed for anyone who marries more than four wives.
I Bello, I assure you all that I will not do that which God has not commanded me to do. I will never make mockery of God because I am not above death. My wives exceed four 28 years ago, that was in 1980. I am not a womanizer, I am only responding to a divine revelation from God. And up till tomorrow, if God permits me, I will continue to marry more wives.
Q- You mean you can still marry more wives?
Ans- Why not? So long as I am permitted to do so, I will continue to marry until God says stop.
Q How many wives do you have now?
Ans: Presently, I have only 86 wives
Q- Did your parents notice any strange behavioral traits in you as a child?
Ans- None that I know of. But angels told me that they have been following me right from when I was small until the time was ripe for me to start receiving messages.
Q- How old was your father before his death
Ans- He was 160 years of age before he died. In fact he got married to our mother at an advanced age. And our mother gave birth to eight children.
Q- How many children did your father have?
Ans- All of them are dead except the eight from my mother. The other women, once they gave birth, they would die with their child. But no one could explain the reason for their death. It was after that, my father left Bida town for another village where he met my mother. The village is called Kutigi. That was where all of us (eight) were born. All of us are alive. I’ am the third born.
Q- Among your children, is there anyone that has been married?
Ans- The first set of children that I gave birth to have all died. But the one who can be called my first born today is just 33 years old and married.
Q- How many of them are dead?
Ans- They are 56
Q- So what was responsible for their death?
Ans- It was because drugs were administered on them when they were sick. I warned their mothers not to give my children any medicine whether herbal or orthodox medicine. Because I don’t go to hospital or take orthodox and un-orthodox medicine not only me but all my followers. There are over 10 million people across the world who are living without taking any drug. Just eat good food and drink clean water. Even during delivery, we don’t visit the hospital.
Q- Can you recognize all your children?
Ans- Of course, how many are they that I will not be able to recognize them? Even if they were more than 1,000, I will recognize each and every one of them. They are still very few. In fact let me tell you, I just want to start having children.
Q- But they say you have 170 children already?
Ans- Yes, but out of that number, God has already taken 56.
Q- How do your cater for these children?
Ans- Very interesting question, with simple answer, God is in control, because no human has the power to cater for himself.
Q- How do you satisfy the sexual need of your 86 extraordinary numbers of wives?
Ans- There is nothing God cannot do, he gives me the power and courage to satisfy them, and so with God nothing is impossible. I hope you understand?
Q- Do your children attended conventional schools?
Ans- Of course, yes and why not? I also went to school; do you think I am an illiterate? I may not have gone far, but I went to school, likewise my children.
Q- Were you able to marry from other parts of the country?
Ans- I married from most parts of the country. But I married from all the states in Southern West.
Q- Are you a herbalist or cult figure?
Ans- Be rest assures that I am not a herbalist and I never belong to any cult group. If you search all my followers today, you will never find any charm on them not even a single incision.
