AC Faults Anenih’s Appointment As NPA Chairman

The Lagos state chapter of the Action Congress has faulted the appointment of Chief Tony Anenih, as the Chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA).

The party said  apart from the fact that Anenih has carved a notorious political and accountability image through his previous appointments, it is worried that the present Yar’ Adua government, afflicted by ineptitude, thinks that the best way to run Nigeria is through recycling deadwoods into critical positions that drive the economy of the country.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, Lagos AC says that Anenih’s political history, which is riddled with political back-stabbing, opportunism, chance taking, unorthodox manipulations and treachery, does not qualify him for further political office in this country, if we are serious about setting laudable examples for generations yet unborn. It therefore believes that by the worrying penchant of the Yar’Adua government to recycle unproductive deadwoods and mediocres in public offices, the government wants to end up in the same miasma of under-achievement it has been wallowing in for the past two years.

“If Anenih’s political history is sordid, his record of public accountability, marked by the frittering away of N10 billion in a phantom poverty alleviation programme and squandering over N300 billion in the Ministry of Works, is enough to put him away for life. It is indeed sad that the PDP, in nearly ten years in power, has rather excelled in rewarding political prostitutes, economic rapists and societal misfits. This is the reason the country is presently mired in a state of near collapse and the plight of lots of Nigerians have worsened terribly under the PDP’s roguish watch in the past ten years.

“When placed side-by-side by the image the NPA has cut especially in the Obasanjo years, as a fat cow to be milked by favoured fawners and courtiers of the president, we would understand why Yar’Adua rewarded Anenih with that sleaze empire and what we shall see is a picture that would not be different from the one we saw of the NPA under Bode George,” the party averred.

It also added: “Lagos AC is not under any form of illusion that the NPA is now being employed as a reward for a choice political jobber and area father, who has infected Nigerian politics with enough fraudulent inputs that it has become a laughing stock in the comity of nations while other nations make giant progress in electoral practices. This can well explain the predilection of the Yar’Adua government to continue to reward it with a stolen mandate even when he makes a hypocritical commitment to electoral reform.

“But we are dearly worried that this government is in a great haste to lease our national patrimonies and choice sectors to economic rapists, deadwoods and glorified charlatans who have continued the progressive destruction of this well-endowed country. We must all feel concerned at this expedient political game Yar’Adua is playing while sinking Nigeria further into the valley of despair, decay and hopelessness”.
