AKSG TO HAND-OVER LE-MERIDIEN HOTEL TO STARWOOD COY FOR MANAGEMENT

Akwa Ibom Government has reiterated its resolve to boost the tourism industry by ensuring that Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Nwaniba meets an international standard.

In this regard, government has finalized plans to hand over the management of the hotel to Starwood Company.

 Governor Godswill  O. Akpabio, who dropped the hint today when the company’s management paid  him  a courtesy visit, said the hotel is ready for official opening.

Chief Akpabio said though the present administration inherited few rooms from its predecessor which commissioned the golf resort, hinting that his administration undertook the re-grassing of the resort while the hotel now boasts of 160 rooms.

“When the present government took over the hotel, there were few rooms. I am happy that working with the team- Commissioners for Commerce and Tourism, Housing and Urban Renewal and the Special Assistant on Technical Matters- has been quite successful at least we have handed over keys of 160 rooms to you”, he noted.

He disclosed that a date would be fixed for the official commissioning of the hotel to enable many people to have access to booking its facilities on-line.

The Governor commended them for the visit which is in connection with the official handing over of the management of Le Meridien Hotel to the company.

Earlier, the Vice President of Starwood Company, Hassan Andab had expressed gratitude to the governor for according them a welcome, saying that the visit was to put finishing touches to the running of the Hotel.
