A former student’s Government Association leader of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Mr. Najeem Adekunle Tijani, suddenly finds himself in a legal black hole on account of alleged violation of Immigration rule in the United States of America.

Mr. Tijani who is now being detained with a Citizenship and Immigration Service been waiting for possible deportation from the U.S. is appealing the verdict of immigration court.

He is pleading that his deportation be stopped because the conviction that led to his asking for political asylum in the U.S. still exists.

According to him, his principled opposition to military rule and pro-democracy activism led to his leaving Nigeria in 1997. His life, according to him, was attempted. He said that “Nigeria has an alleged democracy and not real democracy. The same elements who used violence force and arbitrariness to hold us by the jugular, in the name of governance, have not changed. They simply dropped their military togas and pretend to be democrats. Hence people continue to disappear, there is always sponsored political terrorism, killings and kidnappings.”

Mr. Tijani was an Electrical Engineering Student in Nigeria.
