Ondo warns former council bosses against breach of peace

…urges Agagu to seek redress in court over councils’ dissolution

The Ondo State government has raised an alarm over plans by former local government council chairmen and members of their Legislative arm acting under the instructions of the erstwhile governor of the State, Dr Olusegun Agagu to storm local government secretariats with armed thugs with a view to doctoring and burning incriminating documents as well as loot council properties.

It called on civil servants in all the 18 local government areas in the state and the law enforcement agencies to nip in the bud this imminent breach of peace and attempt at looting by taking precautionary measures.

Raising this alarm in a release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi in Akure on Tuesday, the State government disclosed that this latest in the series of attempts to distract the government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko and cause preach of public peace, was the outcome of a meeting held by these former council officers with Dr Agagu at his Iju-Odo hometown on Sunday.

The release also enjoined the people of Ondo State to kindly prevail on Dr. Agagu and his cohorts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State to allow peace to reign supreme.

“They must be told in clear terms that they have lost to the popular wish of the people of Ondo State at the election of April 14, 2007 and which was confirmed by the Judiciary first on July 25, 2008 and again re-affirmed on February 23, 2009 with the declaration of Dr Olusegun Mimiko as the Governor of Ondo State.”

According to Olabisi: ‘The task ahead of this government in its determination to provide the REAL dividends of democracy to the people of this State after several years of ineffective and profligate governance by the immediate past administration is no doubt a big one; hence Dr Mimiko must be allowed to be focused in this wise.”

Specifically, the State government advised Agagu and his supporters to go to court for redress if he feels uncomfortable with the action of the Mimiko government.

“Should Agagu and his people feel aggrieved by any actions of this administration, they should go to Court to seek redress like Dr Mimiko did for 22 months in his bid to reclaim his stolen mandate. This is the path of honour and it is the only course allowed in conformity with the Rule of Law rather than engaging in this under-hand tactics. Enough is enough,” the release added
