Ondo Stakeholders’ Forum rallies support for Mimiko
A Stakeholders’ Forum on Peace in Ondo State last weekend rose from a meeting rallying support for the State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko with a tacit endorsement for the positive steps being taken by the governor to secure a better future for the people of the State.
The Stakeholders were drawn from various sectors including traditional rulers, religious leaders, labour unions, market women, youths, the public service and political parties. Members of the State House of Assembly were also in attendance at the meeting which provided opportunities for them to spaeak out on the new government and issues of development of the State.
The Catholic Bishop, Ondo Diocese, Right Reverend Francis Alonge lauded the Governor, Dr Mimiko for treading the path of peace and rule of law which he noted made it possible for the Forum which attracted over 1000 stakeholders to speak with one voice for the need for urgent development and approval of the steps being taken by Mr. governor to ensure peace.
Representative of the Moslem community, Alhaji Ahmed Aladesawe promised the cooperation of all Moslems in the State for the government. He also prayed for God’s guidance and direction to allow peace to reign in the State at all times.
On his part, the Chairman of the State Traditional rulers, Oba Lawrence Omowole, the Amapetu of Mahin stated that Dr Mimiko had started on a good note with the policy of disengaging the traditional rulers from partisan politics. He observed that royal fathers as the custodian of culture and values will always give their blessings to the governor while underscoring a strong need to embrace peace for the benefits of all.
The Forum also attracted representatives of political parties with the Chairman of the Action Congress (AC) in the State, Chief Olusola Iji drumming up support for the new government. He also advised the members of the State House of Assembly to work in harmony with the executive for the good of the generality of the people of Ondo State who worked and defended their mandate.
The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the State, Mr. Mohamodu Braimoh and the Head of Service, Mr. Alaba Isijola promised the total support and loyalty of workers to translate the vision and aspirations of the government into reality and make the people feel the impact of good governance promised by Dr Mimiko.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi who represented his boss at the Forum thanked the people for their candour, sincerity and determination to ensure the success of the new government.
He said that the governor has been an advocate of dialogue in the promotion of mutual understanding. According to him, Mimiko has approved that the Stakeholders’ peace Forum will be a regular occurrence in order to give the people of the State a voice in governance.
Olanusi also disclosed that government has already taken drastic measures in the areas of peace and development noting that this would ensure a solid foundation for good governance.
