A new twist has now been introduced to the saga of alleged ritual murder in which Mrs. Oyindamola Amuka, wife of the Publisher of Vanguard Newspaper and four other Islamic clerics have been fingered. Sources close to the Inspector- General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Mike Okiro are saying that a fresh investigation has been ordered over the matter.
Sources who would not want to be named told pointblanknews.com at the beginning of the week that the IG, Mr. Okiro, contrary to the impression initially given by the Lagos state Police Command knew nothing about the purported disappearance of the case file said to have been destroyed by Police officials in Lagos State.
The sources said that the IG feels terrible and sorry that some people would not want to give second right on the implication of not having a transparent and thorough investigation.
The source said that Mr. Okiro has now called for the case to be transferred to him as a matter of investigational interest.
Meanwhile, an all-week effort to secure the release of the investigative reporter Mr. Steve Ugwu-Chinua, which blew the lid off Mrs. Oyindamola Amuka and her other alleged accomplices have run into inexplicable brick-walls.
Lawyer to Mr.Ugwu-Chinua Chief Giwa Amu told poitblanknews.com that the court tax clearance that was presented to the court was rejected because it did not meet the minimum of three years benchmark set by the Lagos Court.
Chief Amu assured that the N200, 000 bail bond ordered by the court have been raised and that it is expected that the Police would release him to us, so that he can go to his family and fight his accusers in freedom.
