Man kills dad, reports self to Police

A 36-year-old man, simply identified as Marshal, yesterday, matcheted his father, identified as Baba Lewu, to death. Thereafter, he reported himself to the police at Ikotun.

The incident happened at about 2 p.m., at their residence located at 2A, Fatima Street, Ikotun, Lagos, when their neighbours had gone to work. P.M.NEWS gathered from the neighbours that Marshal had been plotting to kill the old man, who was over 70 years old, before he eventually carried out the dastardly act yesterday. It was learnt that Marshal was afflicted with a strange illness and he was alleged to have accused his father of being the source of his sickness.

While the old man was asleep,  the suspect reportedly hit him with a rod.  The man woke up suddenly and attempted to escape, but it was learnt that the accused held him back and macheted him. He bled to death before  he could be rescued. After the incident, Marshal went to Ikotun police station and reported what happened. The police went with  him to the scene of the incident where they found the body of the deceased, before he was detained at the station.

The police took the body and deposited it at the Ikeja mortuary, for autopsy. When P.M.NEWS visited the police station, where the suspect was detained, the reporter was not allowed to speak with the suspect, but was referred to Area ‘G’, Ogba, where the matter was transferred. Some of the residents, whom P.M.NEWS contacted, refused to provide details  about the incident. However, some expressed shock over the incident and described the deceased as a good man who lived peacefully with his neighbours.
