Gen Adebayo advises media on positive reports, lauds Mimiko
The former Governor of the old Western Region and Chairman of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), General Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd) has urged the media to always advise government instead of engaging in unnecessary criticism that may jeopardize the peace and development of the country.
As the mouthpiece of the people, General Adebayo submitted, the media must be in the vanguard of transformation of all facets of the nation’s economy and propagation of peace. He noted that they must give accurate and genuine reports of events of national importance.
The octogenarian, who stated this in Akure while paying a courtesy call on the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko in his office, stressed the need for the media to work closely with the administration of Dr Mimiko in order to jointly achieve the expected success by the people of the State.
He confirmed the high expectations of the people of the state, in terms of good governance that will meet their age-long desires, stressing that the only instrument to success is total commitment to the wishes of the people and absolute trust in God.
According to him, the people of the state hold the Governor in high esteem, adding that the massive supports given to him at the time of the election and court cases are clear manifestations of the trust and confidence they have in his ability to provide qualitative leadership for them.
The Elder statesman, who described Dr Mimiko as a sincere, loving and selfless person both in deed and in character, however advised him to join hands with other Governors from the region with a view to jointly move the region forward.
The retired military chief, who was the Governor of the old western region out of which Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo and Ogun states were created, expressed joy at the level of transformation that had taken place especially in Ekiti and Ondo states and called for mutual understanding and support for each other.
In his response, the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko thanked the Octogenarian for the visit and commended his efforts at uniting Yoruba leaders for peaceful co-existence and development.
He described the Yoruba race as very prominent and instrumental to the civilization and socio-economic transformation of the country, saying that the race cannot be left behind concerning national issues of development.
