10,000 Akwa Ibom youths to get employment
Not long, 10,000 unemployed youths in Akwa Ibom State are to smile under Godswill Akpabio Mass Employment Initiative.
Akwa Ibom People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Chairman, Bishop Samuel F. Akpan who announced this at Abak Ishiet in Onna Local Government Area while celebrating his recent consecration as a Bishop by Brotherhood of the Cross and Star said each employed youth is to receive about N30,000, courtesy of ROFICO LIMITED, producer of MILCOW powdered milk.
Bishop Akpan who is also International Co-ordinator of Akwa Ibom People’s Forum (AKPF) speaking at the occasion attended by Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill O. Akpabio; his deputy, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, members of the State Executive Council and other dignitaries praised the company for sourcing funds from some banks to finance the scheme meant to offer gainful employment opportunities to the teeming youths in the state.
“If we can pick the first 10,000 youths, each is to earn between N30,000 and N40,000 on a monthly basis for the business entrepreneurship”, he disclosed.
The AKPF International Co-ordinator advised the youths to be hard-working and to take advantage of the opportunity offered them to prosper, noting that “We have given you a platform to create wealth, but do not misuse it”.
On educational development, he hinted that AKPF has established Uyo Business School to offer Post Graduate Diploma and announced Governor Akpabio as a visitor to the school, noting that it was important for Akwa Ibom to the place prosperity and stability.
While appreciating the governor for his developmental strides in the state, Bishop Akpan appealed to the governor to integrate and empower the physically challenged persons and women under the aegis of AKPF who worked assiduously for his emergence in 2006 as a governorship candidate in PDP.
He used the occasion to present models of Akwa Ibom Computer accessory and packets of “MILCOW” product with Akpabio’s picture as initiative of AKPF members, and solicited micro-finance assistance for mass production, adding that the forum was parading the first-ever football club in the state played only by indigenes to boost talents of Akwa Ibom people.
Governor Akpabio congratulated Bishop Akpan on his elevation to the exalted position in the Lord’s vineyard extolled his sterling qualities even as a astute politician and mass mobiliser.
Akpabio attributed his initial success at the PDP 2006 delegates’ conference to AKPF role, and thanked the members for their commitment, steadfastness and patience, assuring that his administration was in the business of empowering them for contributing to his success.
He re-stated his administration’ resolve to carry every body along with no regard to social status, and challenged political appointees in the state to empower their subordinates to ensure everybody enjoys the democratic dividends in the state.
The governor, who donated a bus to the physically challenged, assured the leadership of AKPF that the government would lay a solid foundation by executing mega projects in education, agriculture, transportation, among others for a sustainable economy in the state..
Chief Edet Mkpubre, the Vice Chairman of PDP South –South, represented at the occasion by Chief Ulo Ante Uye congratulated the Bishop on his enthronement, and attributed the consecration to his good works, saying the elevation to that position should challenge other Akwa Ibom people to aspire higher.
Dr. Otobasi Akpan, AKPF International Secretary said the forum decided to celebrate Bishop Akpan for his hardwork, dynamism and humility, using the occasion to dismiss as false allegations of sponsorship of another governorship candidate for 2011 other than Governor Akpabio.
