The South-South Governors’ Forum is ready to float a regional airline as part of the measures aimed at diversifying its economy.

Senator Liyel Imoke, the forum’s chairman who briefed journalists today at Government House, Uyo at the end of a closed door meeting, said this is one of the measures the South–South geopolitical zone has taken to end its over-reliance on crude oil-- the main revenue earner of the region.

Senator Imoke, who is also Cross River State Governor, was speaking at a post South-South Economic Summit recently concluded at Tinapa, Calabar, Cross River capital.

Imoke, flanked by his colleagues- Chief Godswill O. Akpabio of Akwa Ibom; Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – Edo, and Rotimi Amaechi – Rivers State , said the forum would refocus attention on the provision of infrastructure and other key projects within the region.

“The governors of the South-South have met and reviewed the outcome of the summit.  We have come to the conclusion that it was a huge success,” he hinted.

According to him, the forum was ready to implement resolutions contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the three- day summit.

The Forum’s chairman recalled that the governors had met with members of the Central Working Committee and had mandated them to work out modalities for the implementation of the communiqué.

Imoke said that in the next two weeks, the governors would have a clear roadmap to implement the outcome and decisions of the summit.
