Sir,

Possible reasons for looting Anambra Treasury

advertisement

Though Governor Obi never denied that N250million cash, which was trailed and recovered from his “business associate”, was government fund, he only explained that it was money from genuine government business transaction. Let us not ignore asking to know when government of Anambra State started paying contractors by cash and at weekends?

Nevertheless, there may be possible reasons for the systematic and brazen looting of Anambra treasury which is believed to have been going on; it was just nemesis that ensured that case of the N250million in three suitcases was cut in the web. Governor Obi is not sure of getting nominated by any political party especially from his own APGA due to some bottleneck created by Iwu’s INEC for recognizing Okorie-led faction as against the Umeh-led.

I am almost certain that Ojukwu may not be aware of the looting until the latest revelation, which a newspaper report June 10, 2009 claimed that the Police have returned the cash back to Anambra State government treasury.

With the return of the intercepted fund to where it came from, one would like to know what explanation Governor Obi would give next. With the return of the cash to government treasury, does it follow that the contract which it was meant for does not hold again? One would like to know, in spite of the overwhelming evidence, what EFCC is still waiting to apprehend those involved. One is not saying that EFCC can prosecute the governor now because of immunity clause, but at least it can conduct investigation and thereafter made it public as no part of the Immunity clause forbade so.
