Save Mrs Lucy's life
BABATUNDE AKINLOTAN
Silent in the face of an evil is complicity. This is why I am writing you from Lebanon through the power of pen, to let Nigerians, the senate committee on foreign affairs and the Honorable Minister of information Mrs Dora Akinliyi, External affair minister about Mrs Emiator ‘s case.
On the 6th of September 2008, Mrs. Lucy Emiator a Nigerian living in Lebanon had an accident with a Lebanese driver. Mrs Emiator was taken to the hospital; the Doctor confirmed that she had injury on her head in St Joseph’s hospital Daora Beirut. She was in a state of coma for 4 months. She developed brain damage and was totally isolated in a room without proper medical care.
While in the hospital there was no adequate medical care administered to her because she is a black. After a month she was forced out of the hospital .We learnt that the hospital collides with the insurance company to eject her from the hospital. Mr Jide Mohammed (President of Nigerian community) arranged for another hospital with the agreement of the insurance company. But unfortunately according to him and the husband they pleaded for more than four hours but the hospital refused to admit her because of doctor’s report from the previous hospital. Presently she is being dumped at home without any medical care.
When this case was reported at the police station, the driver promised that the insurance will take care of 75% while he will take care of25% of all the medical expenses. He also promised to take care of the three children by given the woman a certain amount every month until the time of her recovery. The driver was guaranteed by Mr George Naban, the member of LEBANESE NIGERIAN FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION (BOT) gold list. But the president of Nigeria community in Lebanon and Mr joesph Agabi, a witness and translator insisted that there should be bank guaranteed which I learnt that ten thousand US dollar check was deposited with the police. And agreement was signed between the Embassy and the driver and Nigerian community as witness and the driver passport was impounded, but now none of these promises had been made. The driver is now in Qatar, the police had release the bank guaranteed without consulting the Embassy .The insurance company (SECURITE INSURANRANCE) has stopped all their responsibility on Mrs Emiator. When the Ambassador was informed, he said if the driver had run away won’t the husband take care of his wife.
Now Mrs Lucy Eminator is at home in critical condition.
Therefore, on behalf of Mrs Lucy Emiator’s family and other Nigerians that had been taking care of this family financially since the incident, I therefore appeal to Federal Government of Nigeria, and other well-meaning Nigerians to please help Mrs Lucy Emiator to get proper medical care
I also appeal to the Minister of External affair to please ask the Nigerian Embassy, The President of the Nigerian Community what they are doing as caretakers, and also that Ambassador of Nigeria in Lebanon Ambassador Hameed Opeloyeru to temper mercy with justice and ask Mr George Naban treasurer board of trustee Lebanese Nigerian Friendship association who guaranteed the driver, to please help locate the driver.
