Egypt have dropped Tottenham Hotspur striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam from their squad for their Nations Cup qualifier against Mauritania next month.
According to the Egyptian Football Association, Mido was dropped after losing his regular place in the Tottenham line-up.
Mido was the most notable omission from a list of foreign-based players to be called up for the Group Two qualifier in Nouakchott on 3 June.
Turkey-based defender Mohamed Abdallah was handed a first call-up in three years.
There is also a return to the squad for Abdelzaher El Saqqa, who also plays at Konyaspor.
Egypt coach Hassan Shehata named the Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly and the Sheffield United winger Ahmed Fathi in the list.
He will add the local-based contingent to the squad later this month.
Egypt are on top of Group Two with seven points, three more than second-placed Botswana.
