Dear Editor,

Insensitive leaders and wrong pointers

advertisement

We were all worried that our children are at home and courting vices that would not make them good leaders tomorrow because ASUU went on strike; it had a week warning strike which should have made the federal government react but no thanks to our leaders who are not sensitive. Rather we are reading that the House of Representatives alleging that the Minister for Education, Dr. Sam Egwu, was busy celebrating his 25 th wedding anniversary and spent a whooping N120million for that, while our higher institutions burn.

Not too long ago, one Honourable Mbat-Essien from Akwa Ibom wrote a petition to the president which he copied many people including the heads of the National Assembly, the EFCC, and was later made available to the media, harping on allegation that the governor of his state, Chief (Dr) Godswill Akpabio, splashed over N200million on a relation’s wedding ceremonies.

Recently also I read a short piece in a newspaper where the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Barrister Mike Aonadoaaka, was alleged to have imported belly dancers from Ethopia to mark his last birthday bash in Benue State. It was reported that while the girls were stripping, the traditional rulers and other responsible men at the occasion had to leave the venue.

What is common here is that most of our leaders are very insensitive and drag the norms of morality to thick mud. The masses do note all this and get disgust. Let there be sanity in what we do so that we set good example for our future leaders otherwise there would not be anything good to build on for them to emulate. That you have access to funds should not make you act in an ordinate way.
