School Teacher Wins N.5m in Zain’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics

Lagos, Nigeria; July 17, 2009: A school teacher, Ade Fakoya has successfully walked through the lyrical ladder of hit songs to win a whooping sum of N500, 000.00 naira in the on-going popular music television game show, Don’t Forget the Lyrics sponsored by Zain.

Fakoya, a teacher at Sunny Day School, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos received her cash prize from officials of Zain Nigeria last weekend in Lagos at the Recording Studio of Rapid Blue Format, producers of the internationally acclaimed television show.

Decked in a fashionable black top, the Psychology graduate of University of Ibadan could not hide her excitement as she showered encomiums on Zain for throwing open a wide window of opportunity for talented Nigerians to enrich themselves.

“Zain’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics is absolutely awesome. It’s a level playing field for everyone and you don’t have to over-work yourself to win in the show. You only need to recollect lyrics of popular songs. I think the initiative is good as it underscores Zain’s efforts at creating a ‘wonderful world’ for all its customers,” Fakoya said.

Fakoya who disclosed that her students inspired her to enrol for the show, said she will share part of her fortune with the less privileged, explaining that her desire has always been to lift the poor in the society.

“There is this woman in my neighbourhood that is really undergoing a lot of financial difficulty. Although hardworking, she does not have enough material resources to send her kids to school. I’ll definitely set aside something from this money to assist her; I’ll also reach out to other less privileged people in my neighbourhood,” she said.

Fakoya, married with three children also advised music enthusiasts to enrol as contestants or participate in the Home Viewers’ edition of the Don’t Forget the Lyrics music game Show, describing the programme as entertaining, refreshingly different and rich in content.

Others who received cash prizes at the presentation were Anulika Molokwu, Ndidi Ofoechukwu and Sandra Igwe. All the winners commended Zain for throwing its full weight behind the musical initiative and for rewarding talented Nigerians.

PR Manager, Zain Nigeria, Emmanuel Otokhine who represented the company’s Head of PR & CSR, Emeka Oparah, said the presentation is an attestation of Zain’s commitment to empower and enrich talented Nigerians by giving them the opportunity to win big cash prizes, stressing that the company will continue to reward its customers with exciting entertainment programmes and innovative products and services.

Indeed, since Don’t Forget The Lyrics kicked off four months ago, the music show has not been short of intrigues, fun and laughter as many contestants have employed several hilarious methods to ensure that they lock in the correct lyrics of popular songs with the ultimate intention of walking home with one of the top monetary prizes the TV programme offers.

Viiewers can get a chance to win the biggest prize of N20 million in Nigerian game show history by sending an SMS of the correct answers to questions asked during the show to the short-code: 8899. Viewers can also participate by either calling 2299 or sending ‘Lyrics’ as an SMS to 2299.

Zain’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics is broadcast weekly on national television. It is aired every Wednesday on Africa Independent Television (AIT) between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) between 8.00p.m and 9.00p.m. and TV Continental (TVC) from 8.30pm-9.30pm.

Don’t Forget the Lyrics made its debut in the United States just over a year ago and currently run in 31 countries across four continents. The Nigerian version which is anchored by radio personality, Kamal Salau, is the very first in Africa and has the biggest star prize in the history of reality TV shows in the country.
