Sir,
N53 Bank Liquidators: A husband and wife connection
According to the list of defaulters that sent some of the banks to their graves were a couple who, acting on their individual selves were involved. One allegedly partook to the tune of N1.9billion while the other N0.8billion and their names are Chief (Mrs.) Remi Adiukwu-Bakare and Chief S.O. Bakare, respectively. Their case stood out because they are couple and not that they fell under the category with the highest figures. But Mrs. Bakare has tried to clarify hers in the recent press statement delivered by her lawyer on her behalf.
Chief (Mrs.) Remi Bakare, a dogged politician cum businesswoman was to be the first female state governor in Nigeria but missed by narrowly (only 10 votes) losing in the party primaries conducted for governorship of NRC (of those years) to Chief Michael Otedola who later became the governor of Lagos State. Ever since then she continued changing party platforms with the sole aim of achieving her lifetime desire – governing Lagos State. Before the last Lagos State chapter of Action Congress primaries, she smelt a rat and switched to PPA on which platform she contested but was among those that were roundly defeated by Barrister Fashola. She had earlier dumped PDP and joined Tinubu’s cabinet where she served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Chief S. O. Bakare of Oluwalogbon Motors fame is an estranged friend of former President Obasanjo; he made this know through his interview late last year in the Sun newspaper. He is a businessman believed to have secured facility for running of his business outfits and even if secured part of the loan on behalf of his wife’s political misfortune, he is wealthy enough to liquidate the loan.
