Dear Editor,

Re: Osita Ike's piece on Akwa Ibom Governor

The Nation newspaper is currently in controversy for releasing a discredited survey on the print media. Also in its edition of Tuesday July 28, 2009 page 18 was published a letter titled ”Akpabio wonder” credited to one Mr. Osita Ike, a resident of Lagos State.  Thetone of that letter is capable of annoying other state governments. He had given kudos to Akpabio in areas that included energy, education, healthcare, industry, housing, and security etc. As a result, Osita would like to relocate to Akwa Ibom. Yes, all that is achievable since the present administration reportedly got in two years what the last administration got in eight years.

But why did Osita include energy; did he witness steady electricity transmitted from the power plant, which was 90% completed by the last administration? We now enjoy tuition-free education but can he point at a single school block added to (our) existing schools? Osita referred to healthcare; I hope he was not referring to the five functional special hospitals and University of Uyo Dialysis centre built and equipped by the previous administration? Hope he saw the referral specialist hospital whose foundation was laid by the present administration but the site now overgrown by weeds? On Industry; which of them? There exists Ebiye housing, Shelter Afrique housing and the 50-unit housing in each of the 31 local governments built by the previous administrations and wonder if additional one came since the new administration. May be Osita is unaware that Akwa Ibom was adjudged the most secured and peaceful in the Niger Delta region but now practically one of the unsafe places (see The Nation 28/7/09 page 5). Let Osita dare move from the more relatively peaceful Lagos State and relocate as planned to Akwa Ibom.
