Dear Editor,
Killing Yusuf, Fai and possible cover-ups
No man has the right to take another’s life. In governance there should be rule of law. Even if a man is alleged to have killed, the rule of law permits him to be heard. But in the case of Muhammed Yusuf (the Boko Haram leader) and Alhaji Buji Foi, a suspected financier of the sect; they were murdered.
While the Police and the Army trade words on how and when Mohammed Yusuf was killed, no much noise is being made about Alhaji Foi who once was Governor Sheriff’s Commissioner in charge of Religious Matters; whatever or why Sheriff decided to create that Ministry separately is for him to explain. He has to also explain how he allocated 80 kilometres of land to the Boko Haram sect if he was not privy to the activities of the group. President Yar’Adua himself has to answer some queries, if sincere, because it was also reported in the same media that the sect leader wrote warning him of imminent attacks; what did the President do after such warning came calling.
Above all, Mohammed Yusuf was not caught killing anyone; his members would probably have. Rather it was the army that went exchanging fire with in attempt to arrest him while he was hiding amongst his father’s herds. The same army insists handing him over to the Police. For all you know, the Yusuf and Fai would have spilled some beans and probably that accounted for their elimination.
