Oni's country home, Ifaki pledges support for Arise
The people of Ifaki Ekiti, the country home of Governor SegunOni of Ekiti State have pledged their support for the Peoples Democratic Party’s Senatorial candidate in the scheduled re-run poll in Ekiti North Zone of the State, Chief Ayo Arise.
All the four notable quarters in the town, namely Iwore, Egun, Ilogbe and Ilero on Sunday differently organized befitting receptions for their worthy son, Engineer Oni who again emerged victorious in the recent re-run governorship election held in the State.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Joseph Ogunsemi, a media aide to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sikiru Tae Lawal, the people of Ifaki Ekiti trouped out in large numbers at the weekend to receive Governor Oni at their respective quarters, where they assured Chief Arise of their support during the re-run poll scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2009.
Various community leaders in the town, including Chief Tayo Agbelese and Dr. Segun Aderiye who spoke at the event expressed their delight to all those who voted massively for Governor Oni on April 25 this year, assuring Mr. Arise of such overwhelming support during Saturday’s senatorial election ordered by the Court of Appeal.
“We see Senator Arise as a reliable party leader. He demonstrated his unflinching support for our son during the governorship re-run poll. This is a pay-back time. The people of Ifaki will rally round him on Saturday. He is a good representative of the people and he will through the grace of God and the support of our people go back to the senate.
Governor Oni thanked his people for the befitting reception accorded him, pledging his assistance within the limits of his capability to the people of Ifaki irrespective of their political leaning.
“I am extremely grateful to all of you. I am happy that you never let me down. I will not relent in my ability to do the little I can for all my people irrespective of their party affiliations. We are all a united family. I am very proud of you.” Oni said.
The PDP Senatorial candidate for Ekiti North Re run election, Chief Arise expressed his gratitude to the people of Ifaki Ekiki for the reception organized for Governor Oni and especially the assurance given him on the Saturday election, saying “I will continue to represent your interest in the senate. I will continue to assist the needy and empower the youths”
The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Sikiru Tae Lawal during his visits to traditional rulers in Moba and Ikole local governments said that the Oni-led administration would continue to give the monarchs their deserved honour.
“The PDP and its leaders have respect for traditional rulers. They are the closest to the grassroots. No responsible government can toy with the traditional institution. This is why Ekiti people should ceaselessly embrace the PDP and its candidates in the three tiers of government”, Dr. Lawal said.
