Sir,
Ekpo Okon on NDDC: FG double-speak
By setting up the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), I presume the federal government meant it for those States whose soils or waters produce crude oil and not necessarily south-south states otherwise States like Imo and Abia would not have come in; likewise, Lagos State would have made NDDC were it to include only those that border with the ocean. NDDC is supposed to have on its Board those States that merited, safe for those that were otherwise appointed to represent other interest groups.
But is the Federal government saying that Cross River’s representative, Hon Ekpo Okon, is still from oil producing state or that he is there on the appointment of the federal government, among others catering for other interest groups? This matter need be sorted out, otherwise the man is representing Cross River State, and therefore its oil-producing status should be restored without delays.
It is worth mentioning that the federal government always courts trouble for itself. That matter between Cross River and Akwa Ibom as it relates to the oil wells is taking too long to resolve whereas the federal government can make pronouncements to halt further drifting; it is still a cage of gunpowder. And his kinsmen who are asking why Ekpo Okon on NDDC board, they should team to ensure that they are listed properly in the Commission instead.
