Dear Editor,

For Amnesty to work fully: Listen to Okah

Reading the down-to-earth interview granted by Henry Okah as reported in the Guardian newspaper of Monday August 24, 2009; I am in terms that for the lasting peace in the Niger Delta, his suggestions are the antidotes.

I really see sincerity in Okah’s suggestions. The federal government should read the interview over and over again to see that the solutions that would sincerely end the militancy abound. They are simple to execute.

Okah has opined that the amnesty thing is most likely not work unless those suggestions are followed sincerely; and they are not totally different from the position held by Boyloaf and most other repentant militants.

My appeal to federal government is to follow implementation if it is sincere about solving the problem once and for all. The federal government is being alleged to discretely allocating oil blocks to the leaders of the repentant militant groups; this may turn out to be counter-productive.

Eki Umoh,

Olusegun Obasanjo (Abak) Road,

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
