A’Ibom warns citizens of antics of suspicious persons

Akwa Ibom State Government has warned its citizens of the antics of some characters operating within the Niger Delta region, under the guise of recruiting unsuspecting youths for some uncertain engagements.

In a statement, the government said it has come to its attention that the said persons, reportedly working under the name of Niger Delta Liberation Movement, have been deceiving people on the pretext that they were recruiting for the Ministry of Niger Delta affairs and the Niger Delta Development Authorities (NDDC).

The group which has one Nsongurua Mendie (Esq) and Solomon Ikat as National Chairman and secretary, respectively, are said to have compiled names of unemployed youths, claiming that it has the mandate of the NDDC and the Niger Delta Ministry to do so.

It’s method of recruitment drive, it was gathered, takes the form quiet listing of the youths in the hinterlands of most local governments.

However, checks with either the relevant agencies showed that no such mandate was handed to anybody to recruit on behalf of the two government bodies.

An official of the NDDC, when contacted, said they were not aware of the existenceof such body, while another simply said, "we are not in touch with them" and warned the citizens to be careful in their dealings with persons who claim to be representing government organs.
