However, denying allegations that he bribed lawmakers with $5,000 to impeach President Obasanjo, Atiku said, “I have never bribed any lawmaker either to impeach the President or any of the presiding officers of the National Assembly.”
In a statement from the Atiku Campaign Organization made available to pointblanknews, the Vice President said “"I challenge Obasanjo to name the lawmaker who allegedly confessed to him that I had paid him to impeach the President and former Senate President Evans Enwerem. I also challenge the President to produce the minister who claims that I had speculated his death.”
According to Atiku, “unlike Obasanjo who uses Christianity as a smokescreen while engaged in occultism and diabolical acts,” he said he is a devout Muslim lives according to the teachings of Islam.
The Vice-President who denied patronizing marabout said Obasanjo “has exposed his own mindset as one that is covered by the cobwebs of juju or occultism,”
He described Obasanjo as “an evil man who has brought untold anguish on many Nigerians in his eight-year tenure as a result of his deep involvement in occultism and sorcery.”
Stressing on the allegations that he bribed Lawmakers to impeach Obasanjo, Atiku described Obasanjo as a hypocrite who has always bribed lawmakers saying "These include bribing legislators periodically to have his favorites appointed as principal National Assembly officers.
"Bribing to get former Speaker, Umar Ghali Na’Abba removed as Speaker. (Na’Abba had the money displayed in the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly).
"Paying N50 million to willing legislators to pass the Third Term bill that would have given Obasanjo a life Presidency. Paying N25 million and a choice parcel of land in Abuja to some members of the Senate Committee that investigated the PTDF saga and using legislators’ legitimate severance package as a carrot to get him indicted over the PTDF affair."
Atiku added, "I challenge Obasanjo to name the lawmaker who allegedly confessed to him that I had paid him to impeach the President and former Senate President Evans Enwerem. I also challenge the President to produce the minister who claims that I had speculated his death."
The Vice-President Pointed out that for discussing marabout on a national television instead of important issues for Nigeria’s development, President Obasanjo has brought the Presidency to an all time low.
The Action Congress Presidential candidate noted that it is in the character of President Obasanjo to deny any action that he wholly supported especially when it fails, stressing that “how else could one react to the President’s denial of being interested in a Third Term? The Third Term Agenda was conceived, promoted and funded by Obasanjo and a clique around him, using the entire government machinery to prosecute it.
"Now that it has failed, Obasanjo has characteristically dissociated himself from it. I am sure his response would have been different if he had had his way. The Vice President however subscribed to the position of Professor Wole Soyinka that future Presidential aspirants should subject themselves to a psychiatrist.
He further described Obasanjo as “a petty, quarrelsome and insecure old man presiding over the affairs of a complex entity as Nigeria.”
Atiku added, “I sympathize with him. He never thought this day will come. Let him go quietly with whatever is left of his reputation instead of making wild and unfounded allegations against innocent people." Like many Nigerians are now saying to him, ‘go, Obasanjo, just go’ Atiku concluded. |
