Sir,

Senator Jubril Aminu is right on PDP

Reading from the front page of The Guardian Saturday September 5, 2009 was a story with headline “2011 Will Be Tough For PDP” credited to Senator Jubril Aminu, a serving PDP Senator who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

He opined that the recent by-elections conducted by INEC and the court verdicts were clear indications that hard times awaited PDP in the 2011 pools. He blamed most of the crises in the party to the power drunkenness of some governors who are now feeling bigger than the people that voted or selected them into office and also canvassed removal of Immunity clause which identified as one of the roadblocks in a proper democracy. He had urged the EFCC and Central Bank to carry on with the good work they are doing.

But this good work would not be complete if the EFCC Chairman fails to bring into the prosecution the debtors of the N53.3billion of the failed banks as revealed by Senate Committee on Banking. Furthermore, there is this N1billion involving a sitting governor from a south-south State; it was owed Union Homes, a subsidiary of Union Bank but the embattled Group Managing Director restrained the bank’s external lawyers from prosecuting the governor.  The public would like to know how the facility was sorted out – was it written off as bad debt or was it settled with the public fund. The detained Union Bank GMD is alleged to come from the State as the governor.

EFCC would also not get a pass mark if its Chairman fails to name that first-term governor she said bought N1billion property in Abuja few months into office. She revealed so and therefore the onus is on her to tell the public.
