You Can't Diminish Obj's Place In History - Uba Sani by Ben Young

The Special Assistant to the president on Public Affairs, Mallam Uba Sani yesterday lashed out at
opposition political parties and their leaders for the continued attack on  President Olusegun Obasanjo
saying such attacks would not diminish his positive place in the nation's history.

Mallam Uba Sani who stated this while fielding questions from foreign journalists on the president's
legacy said such attacks on the person of the president was too late in coming as the hsitory of the
country cannot be rewritten at the instance of these critics.

“Whether anyone likes it or not, Mr. President is quitting the stage a happy and fulfilled man, having
worked tirelessly to place the country on a sound economic footing and given the citizens renewed hope
in their country”, he stated.

Mallam Sani said through deft ingenuity and the personality of the president, he was able to restore
to Nigeria and Nigerians their pride of place among the comity of nations.

He advised members of the opposition to come to terms with the reality and work towards building a strong
united country rather than waste their energies on criticising the president.

The presidential aide said those who insinuate that the president was not happy leaving were only being
mischievous as the president had put in his best to turn the country around.

“If he had failed in his assignment, of course, the president like every human being would be sad that he
could not deliver. But that is not the case. He came, he saw and he conquered and so, why would anyone in
his shoes feel unhappy that he had to go”, he emphasised.

He said with the election over and a new leadership having emerged in the country, it was time for all to
put the past behind them and forge ahead in a renewed determination to build on the gains of the Obasanjo
administration for the benefit of all.
