National Treasurer of Urhobo Consultative Forum (UCF) and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun John Oguma at the weekend expressed confidence that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan would be re-elected as the Delta State helmsman in 2011, saying his achievements are his credentials.

Oguma stated this shortly after presenting two brand new buses to the Uduaghan Ladies Vanguard at his residence in Warri.

Said Oguma on Uduaghan’s chances ‘I believe Uduaghan would be re-elected again because of his track record. He is tested and trusted. I believe Deltans know this and I know he is going to be re-elected’.

He told the crowd of party faithful that Governor Uduaghan’s achievements since assumption to office is rooted on two issues, the first being his three point agenda that focused on peace and security, human and capital development and infrastructural development and secondly, the skilful planning and implementation of the budget.

‘His sterling leadership served as the springboard to the successful implementation of numerous capital projects. He has recorded significant structural development in both rural and urban areas in all the twenty-five councils that spread across the three senatorial districts in Delta State. He has constructed brand new roads and bridges, provided standard rural electrification projects to complement the electrification projects initiated by ex-governor James Ibori’

True to his vision, passion and empathy for the poor folks, Oguma said Governor Uduaghan has completely transformed the health care system and delivery by making effective pro-poor policies that are marched with adequate financing.

Oguma also said Governor Uduaghan started the Asaba international airport and the expansion of the Osubi airport to open up Delta State’s industrial and tourism potentials to the outside world and also attract investors to boost the economy of the state.

In the area of security, Oguma said Governor Uduaghan had encouraged the police, army and state security services with incentives for optimal performance.

He emphasised that Governor Uduaghan has clear vision of the society he wants, the Delta of his dream.

‘ He thinks far ahead of those around him. I share his vision of a prosperous Delta State. He is a humanist and a leader determined to leave his footprints in the sands of time by impacting positively on the lives of the people of the state, irrespective of their social status. He is the best for now and we have resolved to present him again to Deltans in 2011. This is unshakeable and irrevocable. Those opposed to his second term bid do not have the political clout to abort this objective’.

On allegations that the governor is sponsoring him and that the donation of the vehicles were informed by selfish motives, Oguma said that he has faith in the leadership of Governor Uduaghan and that Nigerians know him as a philanthropist.

‘In 1977, I built a four-classroom block in Ovwor Mixed Secondary School, Olomu. I built and equipped a science block also and awarded several scholarships. In 1979, I donated five buses to National Party of Nigeria (NPN) under the leadership of late Chief T G Ogigba. In the days of Social Democratic Party (PDP), I donated four cars to the party. I donated quite a good number of vehicles to PDP under the leadership of Captain Sinabe and Concerned Deltans for Ibori under Hon Isaac Uju. In 2002, I gave several vehicles to party faithful in my LGA. I donated a vehicle to Ethiope west chapter of Women in Politics in 2002. I also donated a car to PDP chairman, Ughelli South Local Government. I am used to this type of generosity’.
