MOPOL leg-chained for killing Lagosian

LAGOS state commissioner of police, Marvel Akpoyibo has ordered that a Mobile Police officer attached to a bank in Idi-Araba, Mushin,Lagos should be leg-chained while receiving treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital for allegedly killing a Lagosian on Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the police officer, whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report, was on guard at the bank, when the Lagosian arrived the premise of the financial institution for some transactions.

According to sources in the area, when the customer was about entering the premise of the bank, he was allegedly challenged by the cop over unclear reasons, which eventually resulted in a heated argument.

Angered, the cop was alleged to have pulled the trigger and shot the unidentified man, killing him instantly.

When it dawned on the police officer that the bank customer was death, he was said to have attempted to run, but was overpowered by some persons, who pounced on him and beat the day light out of him.

But for timely intervention from the police in the area, the MOPOL officer, who is presently being treated at the University of Lagos teaching hospital in Idi-Araba could have been killed, our correspondent gathered.

Lagos police spokesman, Frank Mba told our correspondent that CP Akpoyibo, obviously angered by the incident has ordered that after the treatment at the hospital, the chained MOPOL officer will be charge to court for murder
