Aviation Ministry surveys proposed site for Ekiti Airport

Experts from the Federal Ministry of Aviation have carried out an area survey of suitable site from the proposed airport in Ekiti state, the State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has said.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement issued today, that Governor Oni, who made this known while speaking with newsmen in Lagos during the flag-off ceremony of the 2009 Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land said data collected during the survey by officials of the Aviation Ministry was already being analysed.

He noted that his administration was involving the Aviation Ministry and other regulatory agencies in the sector in the process of establishing the proposed airport.

Governor Oni stressed that the proposed airport would basically provide a platform for the export of agricultural products and make the state easily accessible to tourists and investors when completed.

Earlier the Vice President of Nigeria,  Dr Goodluck Jonathan who flagged off the 2009 Holy Pilgrimage urged intending pilgrims to be good ambassadors of Nigeria while in the Holy Land.

He commended the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) for securing a Boeing 747 airline for this year's pilgrimage.

Vice president Jonathan, who was represented by the Senate President, Senator David Mark expressed hope that this year's holy pilgrimage will be hitch-free in view of the good preparation made by the NCPC.
