Editor Sir,

Gov. Bunu Sherif should rather be praised

After reading article by Monguno Hussaini entitled “Gov Sheriff and Boko Haram: Birds of the same feather”, recently in the media, I came to conclusion that some States should be merged as suggested in an interview Daily Independent newspaper had with an Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in one of the south-south States.

Hussaini in agitation, asked Governor Bunu Sheriff of Borno State to account for N160billion which he received as the federation account allocation in six years he has served as governor of that state. Hussaini must be kidding because I am sure Akwa Ibom indigenes are even afraid to ask their governor how come he claims that he has spent N200billion in two years on one item - road constructions.

I am sure Hussaini who is a native of Borno State would now know that his governor remains a magician to have run the entire State’s affairs with an average of N27billion received per annum, from the federation account.

This actually brings one to the question of great disparity existing between States. Whereas Borno has a land mass almost double that of Akwa Ibom and with desert encroachment to contend with, it still exists as a State, and running every facets of the administration with such a paltry amount, is a feat that should be appreciated rather than condemned by people of Borno State.
