N5 billion fraud: Former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arrested former Governor of Sokoto State, Mr. Attahiru Bafarawa over an alleged embezzlement of about N5 Billion while he served as Governor of the state between 1999 to 2007.

He was arrested at about 3:25 Pm Nigerian time at the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja where he was meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and All Nigeria People Party, ANPP Presidential flagbearer, General Muhammadu Buhari and members of the National Democratic League, a nascent political group.

 Sources told pointblanknews.com that the Governor siphoned the state treasury using over 47 different bank accounts.

The former Governor just returned from Saudi Arabia where he had gone to perform the annual Hajj.
