Amaechi sets for war, warns Public Officers

PUBLIC functionaries in Rivers State, one of the key oil and gas producers in Nigeria, who are not willing to improve on their productivity, are likely to find 2010, a hard year to remain in their offices.
The state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has already warned them to brace up for positive action or be shown the way out. Analysts say the administration is desperate to make the state a preferred destination for investors.
To this end, the governor wants public officers to be the main engine of service delivery and poverty eradication in the state.
In a seeming wake up call, Amaechi, has charged public office holders to be result oriented to enable his administration achieve its objective of delivering quality service to the Rivers people.
Governor Amaechi gave the charge on Wednesday, while performing the swearing-in of four new Permanent Secretaries and inauguration of five members of the state Pensions Board at Government House, Port Harcourt.
The governor said their appointments were based on merit, noting that they are expected to produce result that would attest to their character.
He charged members of the Pensions Board to manage the board well and be able to pay those that are entitled because a lot of people’s lives depend on it for sustenance and congratulated all those sworn-in for their appointments.
Those sworn-in as Permanent Secretaries were Mr. Loveday Imeah, Clifford Ndu Walter, Mrs Stella Inyie Toby and Mr. Ikenna Sibeudu who hails from Anambra State, while the Pensions Board has Mrs. Ednah Alikor as Chairman, Mr Daye Macs, Lebari Nwarra, Dr.. Ovunda Okene and Stephen Nwokungbe as members.
