XMAS: Oni urges total obedience to God's Commandments
Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has urged indigenes of the State to use the Christmas period to rededicate themselves afresh to the service of the Almighty God and the obedience of His laws, adding that; “Since Jesus Christ whose birth we are celebrating obeyed the commandments of God, it follows that Christians, too, must keep the commandments and teach others to do the same.”
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, Governor Oni in his goodwill message to the people of the State on the occasion of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ said Ekiti State has a special reason to be grateful to God, who has shown uncommon love to the State.
His words: “I want to use the occasion of this Christmas to urge all Ekiti sons and daughters both home and abroad to rededicate themselves afresh to the service of the Almighty and total obedience of His laws.
“Christians in particular should continue to be obedient to the commandments of God as done by our Lord Jesus Christ because He (Jesus) makes it very clear that those who follow Him and aspire to His Kingdom have a perpetual obligation to obey and uphold God's law.
“The Holy Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ’s disapproval falls on those who slight the least of the law's commands, and His honor will be bestowed on those who teach and obey the commandments.
“Therefore, our people, especially Christians should use this occasion of celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ to rededicate themselves to the continuous service of God and humanity as well as total obedience to the commandments of God Almighty.”
While noting that Ekiti State and its people have reasons to be grateful to God, Governor Oni said; “God has shown uncommon love to us as a people in every step of the way since the inception of this administration.
“In spite of our poor financial resources, the seemingly unparalleled achievements of this administration in the areas of infrastructure, education, health, poverty alleviation, human development programmes such as micro-credit, scholarship, Enterprise Development, payment of areas of pensions and gratuities, workers’ welfare among several others leave me in no doubt that for us in Ekiti, it is Emmanuel – God with us.” |
