Dear Editor,
Anambra 2010: Soludo's chance wanes
There is no doubt; PDP in Anambra State is polarized into two direct and many indirect factions: It has two direct factions – the Chris Uba-sponsored executive and the PDP NWC-sponsored Caretaker Committee executive. The indirect factions include the immediate-past PDP members, namely Andy Uba, Uche Ekwunife (backed by Senator Annie Okonkwo), and Ukachukwu; all now flying the flags of other political parties.
But above those, you have two top PDP members who seem to have kick-started campaign for APGA’s Peter Obi. The same PDP top shots had condemned the party’s (PDP) previous governments in Anambra State, describing them as having contributed in making the State a failed one, prior to the assumption of office by Peter Obi.
PDP Governor Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, two weeks to Soludo’s official campaign launch; on 21 st November at Awka in a gathering of large crowd said thus to Obi “…..something struck me that Anambra State was a failed State in Nigeria before you became a governor. But with you in governance, who have been successful in business, things are changing for the better. People can see the positive changes. One can see that God has taken special interest in the affairs of Anambra. You have brought life to this State. You have rewritten the history of politics and good governance” – Daily Independent 25/11/09, page 7. The other party top-shot who is a member of PDP BoT, Chief Don Etiebet, on his part said at the occasion thus “….the landmark achievements that have upgraded quality of life of the (Anambra) people, restored peace, stability and harmonious co-existence in spite of political differences and therefore (Obi) has distinguished himself and established a model leadership that was worthy of emulation” – Daily Sun 24/11/09, page 7.
With those favorable comments on Obi by Governor Akpabio and Chief Etiebet, who can tell me that Soludo can still face Anambra people and charge Peter Obi of non-performance?
